Veins and Eyebrows

To add veins, I have 2 methods:

#1. Water-color pencil - Take a light blue or turquoise WATER-COLOR pencil and lightly draw on the veins. (A water-color pencil is not the same as a regular color-pencil.) If you get them too dark, you can buff them off with a DRY q-tip. Do not wet the q-tip because then it will smear the veins and color the vinyl around it.

#2. Oil paints and a small paintbrush - Take some light blue or turquoise-colored oil paint and a small-tipped paintbrush (or a pointed q-tip works well too). For my color on this baby, I have used Cerulean Blue Hue by Grumbacher. Softly paint the veins on. Buff off excess with a dry q-tip.

Some of the preferred areas for veins are the temples, forehead, wrists, ankles, tops of hands and feet. This is totally up to you. It's good to look at real babies to see where their veins are and to get a good idea of how they are shaped.

To add eyebrows:
You need a water-color pencil that is the color you want the eyebrows to be. (A water-color pencil is not the same as a regular color-pencil.) Starting very softly, begin to draw light feathery strokes in the area that you want your baby's eyebrows to be. Once you have the arch that you want, then you can go over your eyebrows again applying a little more pressure. If you get your lines too dark, you can buff them away with a DRY q-tip. Do not wet the q-tip because then it will smear your eyebrows and color the vinyl around it.
